SMART move drives down crime!

Radio DJ Tommy Jardine jumps with Stina Bruun

from Crimestoppers Scotland into the SMART car

By Sgt. Gary Ritchie,
Crimestoppers Scotland's Call Centre Manager

We’re always looking for clever ways of getting our message across and what better than a wee SMART car to increase awareness that all calls to crime line 0800 555 111 are anonymous!

The dinky runabout is the ideal publicity vehicle as it turns heads wherever it goes, declares celebrity DJ Tommy Jardine our man in Dumfries pictured here with colleague Stina before they went for a ‘spin’ in the diminutive Merc two-seater.

Popular radio presenter Tommy is now firmly in the driving seat when it comes to promotions in the South West where his friendly patter and highly tuned sense of humour made his breakfast show a big hit with listeners to South West Sound.

Police cadet Jamie Lyall poses in front of the new SMART.

Radio DJ Tommy Jardine behind the wheel.

The car joins the Crimestoppers Scotland road show fleet thanks to Safeflo and Advanced Publications who were both in Glasgow for the launch of the Scottish edition of Police Talk.

As trailblazers of drinks spiking awareness Safeflo have created quite a ‘stir’ in the Scots licensed trade with thousands of clubbers snapping up their tamper proof devices which offer peace of mind to would-be victims - both men and women.

The launch at the Scottish Criminal Record Office on the banks of the River Clyde at Pacific Quay was attended by Safeflo inventor Patrick Shea , Police Talk publisher Jos Gumbhir, our Call Centre manager Sgt Gary Ritchie and Crimestoppers Scotland stalwart ‘Big Bill’ Leslie and proved to be a bumper event.

“If the road ahead for Police Talk which already boasts a circulation of up to 12,000 copies is as successful as the one taken by Safeflo then we will have to go flat out to cope with the demand,” said Joss optimistically.

Safeflo is already being franchised in places as far flung as Australia with the protective tops themselves manufactured in China now, confirmed Patrick. Joss’s brother Peter a successful entrepreneur helped mastermind the marketing of the ‘Stopper on spiked drinks’ campaign with Crimestoppers Scotland which flowed from the original ‘pilot’ project in Maryhill, Glasgow, before Christmas.
