Graffiti’s a dirty word to most of us – but now in Clydesdale the writing’s on the wall for vandalism.
People with pride in their community have drawn the line by reminding others that if they see something, say something to Crimestoppers Scotland.
More than 4,000 first to sixth year high school pupils are already working on a striking campaign poster.
The eventual winner and three runners up will receive awards from the local police chief and a councillor before the best picture is displayed on bottle banks, buses and bins.
Vandalism and youth disorder in this part of South Lanarkshire creates an environment where crime can take hold affecting people’s everyday lives.
This cannot be written off as a generational issue, as it impacts on the quality of life of young and old alike.

While an energetic and constructive police response is essential, it must be supplemented by involving a wide variety of partners including Crimestoppers Scotland as one resource alone cannot combat the menace.
V.A.L.U.E.S. (Vandalism Always Leaves Unwanted Environmental Scars) is a diversional and interactive approach that will provide teenagers the opportunity to channel their energies positively, being creative as well as contributing to the community.
Until such times that an antidote is found the main aim is to take preventative measures, stopping the scourge from spreading by educating, sharing information and knowledge, gathering intelligence in an effort to make Clydesdale a safer stronger, more attractive place to live.
