Rural Wigtownshire is not really the place you'd expect to find a big red double decker bus which one usually associates with the bustling streets of London.
But it wasn't only the sheer novelty that attracted the crowds on its three-day tour which included stops at Creetown, Newton Stewart, Wigtown, Garlieston, Whithorn, Port William, Glenluce, Lesalt, Portpatrick, Drummore and Stranraer.
The public were able to 'browse' on-board computer displays, posters and leaflets from Dumfries and Galloway Police, Fire and Rescue,Trading Standards, Environmental Health and of course the work of Crimestoppers Scotland, the only charity helping to solve crime.
Southwestsound's popular presenter Tommy Jardine, our man in Dumfries is pictured (below) beside the publicity vehicle with Sgt. Ian Rae of Newton Stewart Police and Nicola Wallace, Events and Marketing Advisor for Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Tommy's message to visitors was clear - calling Crimestoppers anonymously on
0800 555 111 puts the brakes on crime!
"The bus proved to be the perfect publicity vehicle and attracted a great deal of interest across the region. But there were no passengers - all advisers were kept busy," said Tommy. |
