Brolly good show!

It took more than driving rain to ‘cloud’ the enjoyment of those who braved the elements at Pumpherston Golf Club on Thursday 14th September.

The Annual Crimestoppers Scotland Celeb Am started well with teams meeting their celebrities, the coffees and bacon rolls were hot and the goodie bags full.

But then the slight drizzle which had greeted the early teams moved up a meteorological notch or two to heavy rain.

When the water on putting surfaces developed the equivalent of deep and shallow ends, the course managers decided to suspend play for an hour to see if conditions might improve.

Sadly this did not prove to be the case and the tournament was abandoned with everyone, in true Olympic style, invited to assemble once again at Pumpherston in a year's time.

Dejected Golf convener Bill Roger said: “All credit must be given to the greens staff who tried manfully to keep the course playable but in the end it was just impossible."

Chairman Stewart McCulloch added," My personal thanks go to the staff at Pumpherston Golf Club who managed to look after the needs of all those wet and disappointed golfers so well. I am also most grateful to the management of Pumpherston Golf Club who have generously offered us the courtesy of their course, once again, for 2007. This is a magnificent gesture and further cements the unique relationship Crimestoppers Scotland enjoys with the Club.

Plans are already in hand to offer special discounts for 2007 to those who lost out this year. So hopefully we'll all be back next year when we pray the golfing gods may smile on us."
