Everyone had a ball – that’s Pumpherston to a Tee!

It looked – for a while – as if our golf could be a wash out. But luckily the weather changed and the 24 teams each with a celebrity got in to the swing under clear skies.

The day was hailed as a ‘big hit’ by main sponsor ‘Chubb’, who have already pledged their support for next year!

First to tee-off in the Crimestoppers Scotland Celeb/Am at Pumpherston on September 22 2005 with BBC Scotland’s ace newshound Alan Mackay was Central Scotland Police.

Football legends Alan Rough, Mark Hately, Gordon Smith, Fraser Wishart plus top referee Tom Brown and former Celtic supremo Jock Brown were no strangers to the big sporting occasion.

In second place, was the Radio Forth team with 82 points, members Scott Wilson, Mike Scott, Danny Chalmers and Craig Lumsdaine battling for coveted title ‘celebrity’.

The SCRO team Jim Dewar, Drew Dunlop and William Graham teamed up with football star Mark Hately.

Also playing off ‘sound’ handicaps under Stableford rules were some top radio presenters from Clyde1 and Radio Forth.

Radio Forth anchorman Scott Wilson shot to the fore when he scooped ‘Golfer of the day’ and received the beautifully-crafted bronze sculpture donated by ‘Crave design’.

Lothian & Borders -Safety in Community came in first place with 84 points, they received the Crimestoppers 2006 trophy.

Half way house was the trickiest part of the course due to pint sized bottles of Magners genuine draft being offered to our players! However they were awoken with cans of Red Bull and for the last five holes

Ian Fraser from the Dumfries and Galloway Police team was very happy to scoop 'Best Individual' winning the sparkling crystal trophy donated by the Yacht Corporation of Antibes, France

and had to concentrate hard to compete in the Red Bull challenge semi-final. Craig Rendle from Lothian & Borders team 3 won the chance to compete in the Red Bull challenge final in Florida!

The Radio Forth team Scott Wilson, Mike Scott, Danny Chalmers and Craig Lumsdaine presented themselves in style! They came second with 82 points.

In third place the Scotrail team John Quinn, Stuart Langan and Ken Docherty smiled as they received their medals.

enlisting the help of Pumpherston professional Paul Malone and gained third place only one point behind Forth.

Best individual of the day was Ian Fraser from Dumfries and Galloway Police, who received the sparkling crystal trophy, kindly donated by the yacht corporation Antibes, France.

It was a close call but our Crimestoppers champs of 2005 were the Lothian and Borders Police – Safety in Community team, who came top with 84 points, team members Brian Wilson, Douglas Sime, Malcolm Tough and Newsnight celebrity John Milne where delighted to be handed the Crimestoppers trophy.

Comedian Joe Camey was laughing all the way to the clubhouse by taking the ‘celebrity shield’ beating former winner for two years in a row, Alan Rough.

The staff at Pumpherston also brought some sunshine into the competition by making all of us feel very welcome.
