Talk2 Crimestoppers Scotland is a Grampian-wide campaign against vandalism, wilful fire-raising and the fear that such crime creates.
Launched on 30th March 2006 and runs until March 2007 it is targeting 2 groups:
- Vulnerable adults (18+) including in particular, older people and people from ethnic minorities but also the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transsexual community and the Travelling Community.
- People in Higher and Further Education including Adult Learners and Community Learners.
The campaign will use a range of promotional tools such as broadcasting, newspapers and leafleting to ensure that the audience knows, understands, trusts and values the Crimestoppers anonymous 24/7 hotline for reporting information about crime.
Understanding Crimestoppers includes knowing when to call the only charity helping to solve crime and when to call other agencies that can help when you have problems around crime or fear of crime.
Valuing Crimestoppers includes understanding the effect that vandalism and wilful fire-raising have on individuals and communities.
The TALK2 message is:
TALK2 Crimestoppers if you need to report crime anonymously
- Talk2 the agencies that can help when you fear crime – police, fire-service, 999, Victim Support (Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray), Grampian Neighbourhood Watch, Aberdeen Safer Community Trust, Grampian Racial Equality Council and PHACE (for the LBGT communities and Travellers Education and Information Project (for the Travelling communities).
- Talking 2gether is the key to change – are we scared of the right things? The same things? What are the myths and realities about crime and fear of crime?
Talk2 leaflets and Talk2 activities will communicate a directory of “the agencies that can help” as well as some “myths and realities” and the details of the Crimestoppers service.
With leaflets and at activities, Crimestoppers will distribute TALK2 branded tea-bags, Talk2 branded tea cups (mugs) – see below and other Talk2 branded merchandise.
The activities include a design a tea cup competition, a design-a-hat competition and a calendar of small and large Talk2 tea-parties in which all target audiences both groups and individuals can take part. The winning tea-cup designs will be produced and distributed to “the agencies that can help” and perhaps wider depending on final budgets.
